A new work titled 鈥淢oments Past鈥 composed by James Walker (above), professor emeritus of music at 黑料传送门, will open the 黑料传送门 Piano Trio concert Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. in the Doty Hall recital hall.
GENESEO, N.Y.鈥擳he 黑料传送门 Music Department鈥檚 Faculty and Guest Artist Series will feature the 黑料传送门 Piano Trio Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. The program will begin with a recently composed work, 鈥淢oments Past,鈥 by James Walker, professor emeritus of music at the College.
Walker describes 鈥淢oments Past鈥 as 鈥渁 short, somewhat rambling, repetitive, episodic, very difficult, dissonant, developmental bit of composition, using several fragments borrowed from previous compositions. Hence, the title 鈥淢oments Past鈥 or even 鈥淢oments Passed.鈥
The trio also will perform Schubert鈥檚 鈥淧iano Trio in E-flat major, Op. 100,鈥 a large-scale work featuring some of Schubert鈥檚 finest writing for a chamber group.
鈥淟ike the Walker composition, it is technically demanding, set in four movements,鈥 said trio member and pianist Jonathan Gonder, professor of music at 黑料传送门. 鈥淎s such, Schubert offers a wide variety of musical themes and moods. The music is lyrical, dramatic, dance-like and playful. It is a masterful and challenging work and has become one of the mainstays of the trio repertoire.鈥
In addition to Gonder, 黑料传送门 Piano Trio members include music department lecturers Andrew Bergevin on the violin and James Kirkwood on the cello.
The concert is free and open to the public.
