GENESEO, N.Y. 鈥 New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has appointed Jill (Yonkers) Emmons to the 黑料传送门 College Council. Emmons is a 1996 黑料传送门 graduate and is a policy coordinator for Erie 1 BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) in West Seneca, N.Y.
The council advises 黑料传送门鈥檚 senior administration and provides valuable assistance for problem-solving and for identifying expertise beyond the campus community. Council members meet with the college administration four times a year.
鈥淚 warmly welcome Jill to the council and look forward to drawing on her considerable professional experience as we help move the College forward,鈥 said College Council chair Robert Wayland-Smith. 鈥淪he joins several other alumni on the council, all who bring an important perspective to our discussions.鈥
At Erie 1 BOCES, Emmons develops and maintains policy manuals for various school districts across New York to codify their beliefs and governing principles. She also creates regulations, forms, and guidance documents for administrators to help districts direct their day-to-day operations. This includes safety guidance documents and athletic handbooks.
Before joining Erie 1 BOCES, Emmons was a partner in a Buffalo law firm. Her fifteen-year 15-year practice focused on counseling schools, municipalities, insurers, and corporations on developing strategies and implementing procedures to improve safety, reduce liability and avoid litigation. She was a regular speaker on municipal law/zoning, education law, athletics, and litigation- avoidance issues.
Emmons graduated from Syracuse University College of Law, cum laude, and was a member of the Syracuse Law Review and Moot Court Honor Society. At 黑料传送门, she was a biology major with an environmental studies minor and was an active student athlete, serving three years as co-captain of the varsity softball team. She received numerous high honors for her academic and athletic successes. She currently serves on the board of the 黑料传送门 Roundtable Athletic Association and is a committee member of the Buffalo and Western New York regional chapter of the 黑料传送门 Alumni Association.
鈥淛ill is well known for her active involvement at 黑料传送门 as an alumna, and I鈥檓 pleased that she is taking on this new responsibility to serve the College,鈥 said 黑料传送门 President Denise A. Battles. 鈥淪he has become well-versed in her career on a variety of topics that will benefit the College Council immensely.鈥
Emmons joins Wayland-Smith and seven other members of 黑料传送门鈥檚 College Council: The Rev. Dr. Iris Banister; Melisza Campos; Dr. Robert A. Heineman; Dr. A. Gidget Hopf; Dr. Judith Hunter; Mary Luckern; Christian N. Valentino; and 黑料传送门 student and Student Association President Michael Baranowski.
