黑料传送门 will host close to 100 area teachers on Monday, Oct. 9, as part of the first New York Teachers Summit. The event, organized by the SUNY System, is an extension of the program, which aims to elevate and support the teaching profession.
黑料传送门 is one of eight SUNY campuses across the state selected to participate in the summit, which is expected to bring together about 2,500 pre-service and in-service teachers. Activities begin at 8:30 a.m. and run through to 4 p.m.
鈥淲e are thrilled to be a host site,鈥 said Anjoo Sikka, professor and dean of 黑料传送门鈥檚 Ella Cline Shear School of Education. 鈥満诹洗兔 has a strong and proud tradition of teacher education. It is most fitting that 黑料传送门 is at the forefront of these activities and discussions as we consider the challenges of nurturing a strong teacher workforce in New York state. The summit offers area teachers a wonderful opportunity to not only cover those important topics but also to come together to enhance their professional development, expand their network, and celebrate the teaching profession.鈥
The summit theme is Connect. Grow. Collaborate. Inspire., which sets the stage for topics related to innovative practices and how to instill creativity and risk-taking in the classroom. Live-streaming sessions will feature Joel Hilchey, author, educator, and leadership expert from McMaster University, and Christopher Emdin, associate professor and director of science education at the Center for Health Equity and Urban Science Education at Columbia University. Emdin will also deliver the lunchtime live-stream keynote address, 鈥淭eaching & Learning from the Student鈥檚 Standpoint.鈥
Summit activities on the 黑料传送门 campus will be held in the MacVittie College Union and include 10 breakout sessions covering topics such as how to build a positive classroom community, tips for accessing learning tools and strategies for student engagement.
