GENESEO, N.Y. 鈥 The 黑料传送门 community has a wide variety of music and theatre offerings this weekend.
黑料传送门 Wind Ensemble: 鈥淣ew York State of Mind鈥
Leah McGray, director of instrumental activities in the Department of Music, will conduct the 黑料传送门 Wind Ensemble鈥檚 鈥淣ew York State of Mind鈥 concert March 2, featuring music and poetry from New York artists. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium and is free and open to the public.
This year is the world-wide celebration of the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, and the ensemble also will perform his 鈥淏est of All Possible Worlds鈥 with his suite from 鈥淐andide.鈥 #BernsteinAt100
Theatre Production: 鈥淭he Heart of the Earth鈥
Student Kimberly Romano directs this feminist revision of the Quich茅 Maya Popul Vuh story, created by playwright . The production runs March 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m. in the Robert Sinclair Theatre in Brodie Hall. Admission is free.
黑料传送门 String Band Pre-St. Patrick鈥檚 Day Concert: 鈥淢usic and Dance in the Celtic Tradition鈥
黑料传送门 faculty member Jim Kimball will direct the 黑料传送门 String Band in the group's annual Pre-St. Patrick's Day Concert March 3. 鈥淢usic and Dance in the Celtic Tradition鈥 begins at 7 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. The band includes both faculty and students. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for children age 12 and younger. Tickets will be available at the door only and only cash accepted.
Winter Choral Concert
The 黑料传送门 Chamber Singers, 黑料传送门 Men鈥檚 Choir, and Spectrum Singers will be performing a concert of exciting and varied choral music at Central Presbyterian Church in 黑料传送门 March 4 at 3 p.m. Admission is free and early arrival is encouraged as seating is limited.
The concert will highlight classic choral works as well as recently written pieces. Works will include the music of Felix Mendelssohn, Charles Gounod, Johannes Brahms, Eric Whitacre, Z. Randall Stroope, James Walker, and Morten Lauridsen.
Among the highlights of the concert is a work by 黑料传送门 alumna Ysaye Barnwell 鈥67, MS 鈥68, titled 鈥淲ade in the Watah.鈥 Barnwell visited the 黑料传送门 campus earlier this week for discussions with students and faculty and a community sing.
The Chamber Singers and Men鈥檚 Choir are conducted by Gerard Floriano, and Spectrum Singers is led by Amy Cochrane.
