September 2025 Child Abuse Identification Training
Per , all certified educators in NYS need to update their child abuse identification/mandated reporter training between September 1, 2025 and November 1, 2026. Per the , those wishing to receive a certification recommendation must show proof of the new mandated reporter training beginning October 1, 2025. ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ is choosing to use the free, online, asynchronous training offered through the Office of Family and Children’s Services (OCFS).

For current ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ students who successfully completed H&PE 350 between fall 2022 to spring 2025 or who transferred in required NYS workshops from other institutions, and will request certification recommendation, need to complete . Your certification recommendation is proof to NYSED that you have completed the training.
For teacher candidates who no longer have a ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ email account and would like to request our certification recommendation for NYS: we are working on a separate process to send us your completion certificate. For now, beginning October 1, 2025, you must complete the certification request/waiver form and email us your completion certificate.
For teacher candidates who no longer have a ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ email account and would like to request our certification recommendation for a state other than New York: if the state requires our endorsement and asks if you would currently be eligible for certification in NY, we will need proof of the updated mandated reporter training. For those who do not specifically inquire about NYS eligibility, you will not need to complete the new training for recommendation purposes.
Current students who completed H&PE 350 at ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ between fall 2022 to spring 2025 or who transferred in required NYS workshops from other institutions can take the 15-minute addendum training instead of the whole 2 hours.
Teacher candidates (not currently ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ students) wishing for certification recommendation who took the updated Mandated Reporter Training per the can take the 15-minute addendum . Those who recently graduated from ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ and completed H&PE 350 during or after spring 2025 are in this group.
Teacher candidates wishing for certification recommendation who have not taken an updated Mandated Reporter Training must complete the entirety of the new Mandated Reporter Training
If you completed the Child Abuse Identification/Mandated Reporter Training through a provider other than OCFS, you can take their 15-minute addendum. If you did not complete the full training through a provider (it is often offered as a course at other institutions or districts) you will need to complete the entire (2-3 hour) OCFS training to fulfill this new requirement.
Teachers with current licenses will not be contacted by TEACH about this new requirement unless they are applying for an additional license or are renewing their current license. ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ, as an educator preparatory program provider, is required to verify that teacher applicants requesting recommendation(s) for certification have completed the new required training.
For those who currently hold NYS teacher certification, you must the training to NYSED for the new training to show up in your . For those who are current ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ students, the training will be part of your academic record on your transcript.
For those student teaching in Fall 2025, the new training will be required prior to their second placement. Students will need to . This will also be an assignment turned in to your UBTE. For those student teaching in Spring 2026, the new training will required prior to their first placement.
Please refer to any emails you’ve received from the Office of Field Experience. We are prioritizing based on placement and how soon those schools or districts will expect their staff to update their training.

All candidates will need to prove they have completed the new training prior to receiving ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ’s certification recommendation.
We will be using Transcript Comments in Banner to track the new training versus the older trainings. The older version will show up as a transcript comment with “Child Abuse Training Compl”. The new training will show up on student transcripts as “Child Abuse Training Sept ’25”. All candidates must share .
